Would you like to help us in renovating and reviving public spaces in Zajecar?
Donate funds to the special Renewal Fund, managed by the Foundation Step Forward and Zaječar Initiative.
Each year, the Foundation Step Forward and Zaječar Initiative support projects aiming to renovate and revive public spaces in the community.
Public space is an important asset to all communities. They provide people many opportunities to come together and engage with the community, playing a vital role in the social life of communities. Zaječar and its surrounding area are full of untapped public spaces - natural resources, abandoned buildings, neglected outdoor locations. With the engagement of citizens and minimal funding, these spaces can be transformed into community-based amenities, contributing to the quality of life of different groups.
Zaječar Initiative has transformed such a space into the Youth Center serving the community for more than 10 years. Foundation Step Forward and Zaječar Initiative have already supported a number of initiatives in recent years that have included the revitalization of public spaces in Eastern Serbia, which has proven to be very important for the life of people in local communities.
With your donation, you can contribute to the revival of public spaces in Zaječar!
In 2013, Scout unit ‘Djordje Simeonovic’ from Zajecar was supported to create a new camping/picnic site at the shore of Grlisko Lake, located near Zajecar. Even though this lake is regularly visited by many people, its shores are neglected and hardly approachable. This project resulted in 200 meters of fully functional shore/beach designed for picnics, fishing, and other leisure activities.
Informal Group Avnoj Crew was supported to renovate a trim trail located in the Park forest ‘Kraljevica’. Due to neglecting and poor maintenance, this trim trail has been barely functional since early 2000s. The group gathered a number of volunteers and restored the glory of this trim trail. Activities included various groundworks, installation of exercise equipment and promotion of the trim trail. Reconstructed trim trail has been used both by recreationists and professional sportsmen since then.
In 2015, Informal Group Avnoj Crew was supported again. This time, its members sought to make the city ski-run, located in the Park forest ‘Kraljevica’, even more comfortable to use. The group cleaned the access road to the ski run, replaced the old wooden fence with a new one, reconstructed the ski box for children, and installed a toolbox. They also designed and installed unique benches made from old skis and snowboards.
A little oasis was made at the ex-famous picnic location called Paviljon that could be best described as the real jungle now. In 2017, five picnic sets were installed (two benches and a table), while the old benches and tables were replaced with new sets near the Mountain Lodge. These interventions are a part of the broader initiatives for the renovation of Paviljon and the Park forest Kraljevica that was launched by the Foundation Step Forward in 2016
