BUILDINGS AND MONUMENTS UNDER STATE PROTECTION
One often hears a Bulgarian joke regarding buildings under state protection: if someone wants a building to become derelict, he or she should place it under state protection because there would be nobody to take care of it after the official act. We are presenting here a list of 20 buildings and houses in Zaječar that are under state protection, and regarding their current condition we suggest you check it personally, on the spot. This list and part of the photographs is taken from the official Websites of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia - Belgrade and the Institute for Cultural Heritage Preservation Niš.

2. THE MONUMENT TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF TIMOK REBELLION 1883 KILLED AT KRALJEVICA: The monument was placed in 1940 (artist: Antun Augustinčič) and was placed under state protection in 1983.

6. PRIVATE HOUSE AT 9 PROTE MATEJE ST.: Built in 1926, placed under state protection in 1983.

8. THE BUILDING AT 31 LJUBE NEŠIĆA ST.: Built in 1911, placed under state protection in 1982.
9. VILLA AT 20 ĐURE SALAJA ST.: Built in 1938 (arch. Desimir Dančević and Klara Soates), it was put under state protection in 1982.

12. MUNICIPALITY BUILDING: Finished in 1923, it was placed under state protection in 1985.
13. THE BUILDING AT 38 LJUBE NEŠIĆA ST. (FORMER RADIO ZAJEČAR): Built in 1939, it was placed under state protection in 1985.
14. PRIVATE HOUSE AT 50 LJUBE NEŠIĆA ST.: Built in 1920s, it was placed under state protection in 1985.
15. PRIVATE HOUSE AT 1 ISTARSKA ST.: Built in 1933, it was placed under state protection in 1985.
16. PRIVATE HOUSE AT 1 KARADŽIĆEVA ST.: It was built in the first decades of the 20th century, and was placed under state protection in 1985.
17. RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS HOUSE AT 2 7th SEPTEMBER ST. (THE YOUTH CENTER): Built in 1920s, it was placed under state protection in 1985.
18. THE BIRTH HOUSE OF NATIONAL HERO LJUBA NEŠIĆ (9 PIROTSKA ST.): It was placed under state protection in 1950.
19. MONUMENT TO FALLEN SOLDIERS OF TIMOK REGION IN WARS 1912-1918: Placed in 1929 (artist: Frano Mengele Dinčić), the monument is under state protection since 1987.
